This is our piko; is the pōhaku that has travelled around the world and now is here because the Mauna is here, and the journey of how we presented the pōhaku from the Mauna when the Pōhaku said “Please take me, take me, and I will journey with them.” Because when you journey, your end piece is always on the Mauna. That’s what our chants tell us. Mauna Kea is the sealant. The end piece for the canoe is Poliʻahu, so no matter where you go, you’re always on the Mauna. So this is the presentation to Hōkūle’a of the pōhaku.”

Photos taken from a visit from the Hōkūleʻa crew to honor the pōhaku after the voyage around the world was completed.
